I am Co-PI of Re:Structure Lab. We’re working to end forced labour, modern slavery, and human trafficking on a global scale by reimagining the business dynamics that sustain it. Representing Stanford, Simon Fraser, and Yale Universities, our Lab brings together multi-disciplinary academic expertise on severe labour exploitation with valuable practical experience in business model innovation and policy change at local and global levels.

I’m collaborating on a $2.5 million SSHRC grant based at the University of British Columbia’s Global Reporting Centre

Capitalism & Modern Slavery

I’m writing a sole-authored academic book synthesising a decade of research on the systemic drivers and patterns of forced labour in global supply chains and exploring continuities and discontinuities in capitalism and slavery over the last two centuries.

Garment Industry Research

I’ve just completed data collection for a study investigating the impact of Covid-19 on patterns of forced labour in four garment producing countries.

With Andrew Crane, Vivek Soundararajan, Laura Spence, and Michael Bloomfield, I am writing a series of articles exploring organizational dynamics and labour exploitation in garment supply chains drawing on our recent British Academy grant data.
